[Congratulations, friends! You survived to the end. Unless you didn't, in which better luck next time. Either way, enjoy some refreshments and discuss the events of the last few days. Round 2.

On the chalkboard is a sign, reading:]

HIROSHI - 5
OSAKA - 4 5

[Looks like Hiroshi still has the high score. Also looks like everyone is counted towards the score, wwhether you killed them yourself or not.]

Well, that's two times I've survived to the end. Maybe I'm just lucky?

[Your back was broken, Alice.]

Subject: Souji Seta (Age 18)

Died from a slit throat. The body was found in the cellar of an abandoned house based on an anonymous tip. Forensics has indicated the body was at least a couple of days old when discovered. His right hand appears to have been gripping something, but no objects were found at the scene.

Subject: Maria Ushiromiya (Age 9)

Died from asphyxiation. Body was found lying in the woods near town. Autopsy reveals signs of severe bruising around the chest and back, suggesting she was killed by a strong external pressure, perhaps through extreme strength. Found in the woods by Hiroshi Yamane and Maya Fey, with evidence that her body had been dragged some distance in an attempt to conceal it.

Subject: Minako Aino (Age 15)

Died from a single wound wound to the chest. The body was found in the same woods as Maria Ushiromiya, but several meters further way. The murder weapon, a Buddhist staff (Exhibit B), was found still in the body at the time of discovery. Based on her expression, she was awake and aware at the time of death.

Subject: Haruhi Suzumiya (Age 16)

Died from a single stab wound. Found in the woods. The weapon, a kitchen knife, (Exhibit C) was found in her body. Shows signs of a struggle, with both hands firmly around the murder weapon.

Subject: Ayumu Kasuga (Age 16)

Died from multiple stab wounds. Murder weapon is believed to be a pair of sewing scissors (Exhibit D). Forensics has revealed blood from Haruhi Suzumiya and Alice Margatroid, suggesting direct involvement with both attacks. This has been confirmed by Chiyoko Shimamoto, who witnessed the event.

According to the testimony of Hiroshi Yamane, the subject had been acting oddly the previous day, but had not seemed drastically out of character at the time. Neither he nor Maya Fey suspected she may be involved until they were informed by Nui Harime. Bruises have been found on her body which appear to be several days old.

Subject: Alice Margatroid (Age 16)

Suffered a traumatic blow to the back of the head. Currently unconscious at Hizumizaki Hospital in serious condition. Prognosis is uncertain.

Subject: Nui Harime (Age 16)

Found being held back by Hiroshi Yamane, Maya Fey, and Chiyoko Shimamoto. Responsible for the death of Ayumu Kasuga based on the testimony of the three other witnesses. She has been deemed mentally unfit to stand trial, and is currently being held in Hizumizaki Hospital's Psychiatric Ward under extreme sedation.

Final Note:

A warrant was obtained to search the Kasuga household for evidence indicating motive. The body of Mr. Kasuga was found, with cause of death being multiple stab wounds. Records indicate that Mr. Kasuga gained custody of the house and Ayumu Kasuga recently.

[As Alice meets up with the others, she can't help but feel that the woods seem even darker than usual.

Maria's dead. What the hell is going on?]

Do you know anything else about what happened? Why are we out here?
itwasfeyt: (Thinking)
[It had been a long day. Maya had been saddled with these strange memories, right after the ritual. She would have ignored them as a silly vision, had things not started to play out in the same way. Souji was missing, and she knew something was up now. Unfortunately, Hiroshi, her prime suspect in the situation, seemed to know even less then she did. And, when they had gone off to investigate Souji's house once again, they found nothing.

Frankly, she was stuck, and time was running out.

In times like this, her thoughts strayed to her sister, Mia and what she might have to say in a moment like this. One of her lessons were, "if you were going to investigate, the best place to start would be the scene of the crime". There were no proper murder scenes, at least to Maya's knowledge, but the spot in the woods where they did the ritual seemed like a good place to start.

...After getting a burger, of course. You couldn't investigate properly on an empty stomach. but now they were getting down to business, and Maya was leading Hiroshi into the outer parts of the woods.
]

So... do you think we'll find anything out here?

[It was dark and Maria was lost, but she had to leave her house because Mama had seen Tomosuke! She'd found Tomosuke in Maria's backpack and Maria had snatched the panda out of Mama's hands and run straight out the door and kept running. She remembered what had happened all those months ago, when the Black Witch had possessed Mama and murdered Sakutaro and the bunny band and she could't let it happen to Tomosuke too.

So Maria ran and ran and ran until she was quite tired and thoroughly lost. She'd lost Mama too, but that didn't much matter when it was so very dark and everything was so thoroughly unfamiliar. She tried to do some black magic to Mama inside her head but even that didn't help much, no matter how many times she kicked Mama until her stuffing came out.

All Maria wanted was to find Maya's house so she could go inside and eat some burgers and ramen and have Bikini fuss over her, but she had no more idea of where Maya's house was than her own.

And now there was a scary shape moving in the darkness!]

... hello? Who are you? You don't scare Maria! Maria's a witch!

[Souji was definitely missing.

Hiroshi was unnerved. Souji was not the sort of guy to just up and disappear. Did something happen? Maybe if he looked through the newspapers, he'd be able to find some information that would be relevant.

For some reason, however, he found himself digging further back. A bit of a desperate maneuver, perhaps, but he was beginning to find a worrying trend. Souji was hardly the only mysterious disappearance. For such a small town, an abnormal number of people seemed to disappear. Some turned up dead. Others were never found again.

And then there were the other incidents. Murder-suicides, seemingly rational people convicted for murder. All from a tiny town like this.

He shook his head. Well, all towns had crime, right? Why should this one be any exception? It's only rational. But a weird, nagging feeling in the back of his head couldn't help but poke at things. Yeah murders happen... but here? And why so little investigation?

He leans back in his chair, trying to grasp the implications of things. Maybe this would be something legitimately of interest to the club... Ah, right. He should be heading over there now, huh.]
kouyouensei: (Doubt)
[Yamane's right, you know. Things are not going to be The Same when he changes schools. Saturday night, Sunday, Monday, all of these have kept Haruhi Suzumiya far away from Izumizaki.]

Hey strong silent type you ready or what??? FTR "what" is NOT an acceptable answer
Jeez can't you step on it
You KNOW by now that the late person buys the food, so where are you?? Being later won't make it cheaper
Why does nobody talk about Barnard's Star? Sirius is farther. It's almost as close as Alpha Centauri, just not in a cluster. Pretty lonely-looking
I'm not sure I'll forgive you for this!! Keep in mind the jurisdiction means you'll have to face a jury
Wait we don't actually have a jury. Why do these channels air American law shows it's way too confusing
Idiot. You had a really good gig here you were the one I could actually rely on. Why would you throw this away? I'm going to bed
Good morning Seta-kun
This is the worst case of influenza ever huh

[It would be pretty weird if someone else ended up looking at all these text messages on Souji's phone. She's sent text messages to other people about this plan, distributed Mylar balloons as well as traditional charms, loops clenched tightly around her fingers. Occupied hands don't mesh so well with getting through the door...]

Hyaaaaa--!!

[Casually assuming the door won't be locked, she raises her leg to kick it open. This is made easier by the denim shorts she's wearing under an oversized "Supercell" T-shirt. Did... did Haruhi even go to school today?]
all_onis_are_true: (Can I even move on?)
[For once, Hiroshi's the first in the club room. Somehow, he feels a sense of melancholy, thinking about leaving this school behind. He knows that the new school will have more funding, more opportunities, a brighter future. But leaving this place behind, and everybody he knows... Okay, he can visit like Haruhi does, but that's hardly the same, is it?

His dad had given him an earful about going out in the woods in the middle of the night for pointless things, too. He'd tried to explain it as just a thing to do with friends -- watching stars, and the like -- but he seemed to think that the loss of sleep would be detrimental to his education. Of course.

He wanted to talk to Souji some more about his feelings -- candidly, calmly, man-to-man -- but he hadn't been seen at school that day. Of all the days he would end up being sick, too. Just his luck. Well, might as well come here and read until the others show up.]

Ah... good afternoon. I trust you slept well after this weekend?
independent_dollmaker: (Can I go home yet)
-Before Midnight-

[[Seven teenagers and one child in the woods on the night of a new moon, sitting in a circle around a campfire, about to repeat a ritual that supposedly summons a witch. Aren't there movies about things like this? American ones, where everyone gets killed by a monster with really expensive special effects?]]

So next, we just say the words that Maria taught us together, right? It seems simple enough.

-After Midnight-

[[Well, the ritual doesn't seem to have ended with anyone being eaten by ghost bears. Another no-show for the Mystery Club!

From here, there's not much to do but chat on the way back to the village. There really wasn't anyone else here, right?]]
punches_fog: (don't mind me)
[Souji being Souji, he's naturally at school for half the day Saturday, and he's got his evening booked fairly solid, but by heading out fairly quickly, he can catch up with a certain private schooler on their mutual way home.]

Hey. You were pretty...impressive yesterday. Thanks for stepping up for the club.

[He hands Haruhi one of the two canned coffees in his bag.]
kouyouensei: (Penalty)
[Friday. A simple time when people are rushing more rambunctiously out the doors and are more likely to leave them ajar should somebody who doesn't attend insist on entering the school building. Clicking heels ring through the halls and soon enough Haruhi's abandoned classroom radar goes off.

Currently her heels hover a few inches above the floor as she's leaned forward to slam the table with all her might, eyes watering from the dust pushed into the air.]

What do you MEAN they still haven't given you guys' club official recognition? This is head and shoulders above some of the other so-called activities! You have a calligraphy club at this school, don't you? All they do is write.

Who does a person have to talk with around here for some justice?

[Turning her head from person to person with expectant glares. A gentler glare for Maria by a slim margin]
all_onis_are_true: (A real pity)
[The letter was there on the table as soon as he came home. The school's address was on the envelope, with its official red-colored emblem, so it was no surprise who it was from. Nor were the contents, although Hiroshi supposed in a normal family they would have been.

We would like to extend our warmest welcomes to you. Congratulations.

Acceptance. There was no celebration, of course. The only potential for excitement had been disappointment. His father more or less expected Hiroshi to be accepted. His mother, of course, showed a little more excitement, but Hiroshi's father saw no need to celebrate what Hiroshi was supposed to do anyway. Be smart, be successful. That was the key to everything.

Sure. Of course.

He'd gone out for a walk after that -- with his father grilling him about whether he was going to meet those silly friends of his, of course. He answered honestly that he wasn't. Whether they ran into him while he was outside was another matter altogether. Frankly, he could stand to meet SOMEONE who cared about this in a way more than simple expectations.

Even if it's someone he'll have to part with soon...]
